before I get into the post, I just want to say I’m really sorry about my post fail last week! I got so insanely burned out that I had zero writing energy. I promise it won’t happen again! thank you for being here <3
Did you know that one of the most important parts of writing actually has nothing to do with “you”?
As a writer, one of your goals is (probably) to connect people. But before you do that, you need to connect yourself to others. Because we’re not meant to do things by ourselves. Whether you’re an extrovert or an introvert, you need others.
Especially when you’re trying to attempt something huge (like writing 50k words in 30 days!), you need accountability and external motivation to get through without dying (or even completing it).
So how do you get that? Well, if you’re reading this, you already have access to a writing community. In fact, even just one person keeping you accountable can change everything.
How do I join a writing community?
I’ve been a part of The Young Writer’s Workshop (YWW) for more than two years now, and I cannot express how it has insanely impacted me as a writer, while also jumpstarting my writing. Through YWW, I have been able to publish two books, go to multiple book signings, have my books in libraries, book stores, and online book shops, as well as have my WriterScore jump from the 60s to now 100. (If you want to take the WriterScore test, click here! It really pinpoints your weak areas so you can learn which domains you need to work on.)
You can also join other online writing groups, such as discord groups, other Substacks, or my subscriber chat (coming soon!).
What about accountability?
Accountability partners (APs) are my favourite form of accountability. APs keep you on track by checking in with you and your progress. Your AP does not have to be a writer, but it’s always more fun to be doing the same challenge as your AP so you can keep each other accountable. If you’re looking for an AP, I’d love to be one! I’ll be doing NaNo this year, so if you are too, I’d love to help you stay on top of it.
Where do I get motivation and encouragement?
You can get motivation and encouragement from almost anywhere, but APs and writing communities are my favourite places to get motivated/encouraged. Don’t be afraid to ask!
